Playing a Svirfneblin Gnome
Hiding deep in the corridors and caverns of the underdark, live the Svirfneblin, or what is commonly called Deep Gnomes, who are very reclusive, suspicious, and resentful of intrusions into their cavern homes.
Deep Gnomes share little of the humor or openness of their surface cousins.
Svirfneblin may be the known world's stealthiest and most elusive folk. Many generations of surviving the deadly perils of the Underdark have bred into this race an amazing gift for avoiding notice.
The innate ability to cast certain spells to enhance their ability to stay hidden makes this unusual and rare creature very hard to find.
Adventurers may spend a long career exploring the Underdark and never once report "seeing" a Deep Gnome.
Who should be a Svirfeblin?
It is recommended that a Deep Gnome character be played only after discussing this with one of our very cooperative and encouraging Dungeon Masters, in-order to give them a reason for one of these very elusive creatures to become an interactive part of the Gaming World. This is not saying that one cannot be played, just that a lot of thought should go into bringing this character to life.
