Human

Playing a Human
Humans are the easiest race to role play for both you and those you play with. Playing a human is a great way to help new role-players get in touch with the way that the different cultures of DoT should behave. Humans are a bit silly acting in comparison to most other cultures like the elves or dwarves; therefore, this gives new players the flexibility they need to behave how ever they want.

As a human, you are a mover and shaker of the world. The other races are either too full of themselves or too lazy to bring about change in the world. It seems to be solely up to you to do any good (or evil) in the world, to at least what is left of it anyway.

Humans come in a variety of shape and sizes, and the same can be said about their personalities. Some humans are content with living in a sort of normal, peaceful life of simplicity. Some humans are an entire culture in their own right. Mankind has a long history of variety and change, never truly settling down with one cultural concept for more then 200 years. Some human societies tried to become like the elves, practising high magic all day whilst pretending their farts smelled of roses. Other humans tried to become great warriors like the dwarfs, or sneaky like Halflings. Indeed, many races have a silent contempt for the race of man, primarily because they swear all Human cultural heritages are stolen from other races.

But, this is just a current day stereotype of the race. While it is true that some aspects of mankind’s past have been alarmingly similar to some other races, they also have a rich history of their own. The trouble with other races is that they are tied down to the lessons of their dead ancestors, humans on the other hand are always evolving, and always getting better at anything they try.  Humans are prone to quickly accepting new ideas in order to better themselves or broaden their horizons. Truly a race destined for greatness.

However, much of that history has been lost to mankind with the destruction of most of the world. It’s said, that before most of the world was turned to ash and dust that humanity was a shining beacon of civilization, with grand cities to rival that of the elves and the dwarfs. Now only the wastelands remain and there can no longer be any evidence for this for most life has now moved underground.

Even so, the small communities of humans that exist have increased in number, and humans have found better ways to live with the limited resources they must rely on. They have started trading with each other regularly and humans have made sure that they never have too much need for one resource or another, unless it’s gold, or lust.
Human Relationships With...
Elves
Relations tend to be good for the few elves that have contact with humans. However, there seems to be a little distrust or at least distance between humans and elves. Many elves that visit human settlements from some unknown land are friendly enough, however on occasion there are elves that seem to have a totally unprovoked hatred for humans. These Elves always seem to have a, better then you, look in their eye and if it wasn’t for them being legendary mages, humans would possibly out right shun them.

Dwarves
Humans tend to get along well with Dwarfs, most of the time. Dwarfs seem to have a slight respect at human’s attempts at metal work and the warrior’s code; however, they always seem uninterested when you’re not talking about metal or ale.

Halflings
Halflings tend to have good relations with humans when they share an ale or two, but the little guys are not to be trusted, as it’s a well known fact that all Halflings are thieves at heart. Physically weak and intellectually challenged, it’s a wonder any of them are still alive.

Gnomes
Huh? I thought they were all dead?

Half-Elf
These people are basically human, although they do tend to live for longer. Humans have a hard time telling them from apart from other humans since most act nothing like an Elf.

Half-Orc

Most humans see Half-Orcs as horrible creatures spawned from misfortune. While a few humans may sympathise with the cruel fate of Orc existence, many more humans see Orc as untrustworthy monsters. It’s best not to associate with them.

Planetouched

Many Planetouched claim to act like humans yet their ancestry has a large effect on how they act, so humans can usually sum up Planetouched by their appearance. PLanetouched who are nice enough are trusted by humans, but they might be monsters in disguise for all we know…
