The History of The Known World
The Known World was a Neverwinter Nights V1 Persistent World that went through years worth of very rewarding role-playing over various storylines and character builds. It was a very unique place to play games that has never been replaced since it was dismissed back in 2006. Near the middle of 2007, the NWN2 community began to make great progress towards creating persistent dedicated servers. While other games are great fun and we still encourage those games, we decided to put forward some effort into a NWN server once again.
Therefore, the the Dawn of Time is a prequel, taking place about 800 years before TKW v1. Magic has been corrupted by the will of man in a way that has left 95% of the world totally scorched and burned as a vast desert wasteland. The Fall of the planet has taken its toll for centuries but somehow life has survived. Now the different races of the world are just starting to get organized again, however; the use of magic is now the source of great turmoil. Most folks know that magic has caused The Fall, therefore; magic is generally thought of as highly untrustworthy. Some groups have gone as far as to devote their lives to the destruction of all arcane knowledge, forever.
So mages beware, the high art will go un-noticed only if it can be contained in public. Powerful mages stand out with their magic spells that create brilliant auras, so do not be fooled, those spells will bring certain trouble if not properly contained.
Settlements are now connected by underground tunnels and by the last remaining boats on the last remaining water. Most of the Dawn of Time is set in a large valley containing the Almarine Sea. This valley seems to be highly resistant to the burning desert wastelands that have taken over most of the planet, but here life has found a foot-hold.
Travel by boat and the cave systems has increased trade and created a economy that people are beginning to depend on. There are many trade routes and all merchants provide some sort of opportunity to make gold.
