Before the rise of man the world was in a state of peace and prosperity. Magic belonged only to the elves, and that is how it should have stayed. Had the other races never learned magic, then the tragedy that was the fall would never have happened.
The elves of the 1st clan that now reside in sky cliff are the more powerful mages left in the world, and they intend on keeping it that way. In order to make sure that magical knowledge is never again misused by other races, or foolish elves that would teach them, the wizards of the 1st clan created an organization to oversee all magical learning in their world.
The Cyrdaedi Caedaes, or knowledge keepers in the common tongue, are protectors of the great magical knowledge stored in the libraries of sky cliff. While any elf is free to begin learning the art of magic, only a special few will receive aid from the Caedaes. It is only with their permission that an elf can begin to study any of the ancient tomes that reside within, and even then many will only be allowed to read a few volumes in their entire life. However, the actual members of the Caedaes study these tomes deeply and constantly, making them far more powerful than most other wizards.
In order to join the Cyrdaedi Caedaes at least three Mordi (Scribes) have to vouch for a single individual. Once accepted into the organization the elf becomes an Eidaeloli (apprentice) and gains access to the reprinted tomes, which hold useful spells for everyday life. Joining the Caedaes mean joining for life, discarding all family ties and rivalry’s with any other family. Thus the Caedaes give up their traditional family name. There is no room for political maneuvering within the Cyrdaedi Caedaes, and any possible member that is suspected of having ulterior motives is never given the chance to join.
Depending upon the individuals talent and how well they work within the group they may be promoted a number of times:
Eidaeloli (Apprentice)
Vyraelys (Protector)
Mordi (Scribe)
Vandri Peraes (Page Duster)
Cylaes os si Caer (Holder of the Keys)
Each promotion grants the individual more duties and more access to the library, and if they go far enough they may even get to look at some of the most ancient of tomes. The Cylaes os Si Caer (Holder of the Keys) is special in that there can only be one at any time, and a new one only appears after the death of the current holder. It is also special in that they did not in fact gain any new access into the library, rather his duties entail keeping the organization running smoothly and keeping the secrets locked away forever.
